Our Guiding Principles

At Keep Wetlands Wild, our work is guided by a deep respect for nature, community and the knowledge systems that support the survival of Australian wildlife. These principles shape how we show up, what we fight for, and how we work together.

Protect What Matters

We stand for the long-term protection of wetlands, not just for their beauty, but for the critical role they play in supporting life, regulating climate, and holding cultural meaning.

Support Nature to Heal

We believe in the power of restoration. Wetlands can recover when given the time, space and care they need. Our work supports that healing through practical action and local leadership.

Respect Country and Culture

We acknowledge the sovereignty and enduring knowledge of First Nations peoples and work to support cultural land care. We listen, learn and walk alongside Traditional Owners wherever we can.

Defend Biodiversity

Wetlands are sanctuaries for threatened and endangered wildlife. We work to protect the complex, interconnected web of life that wetlands hold, from frogs and fish to birds, grasses and micro-organisms.

Act Locally, Think Systemically

Every wetland is connected to something bigger - water systems, food webs, communities, climate. We act with both local impact and broader environmental systems in mind.

Empower Community Action

Change starts with people who care. We support grassroots voices, build local networks, and make space for everyone to contribute, no matter their background or level of experience.

Stay Independent

We’re driven by purpose, not politics. We speak up for wetlands even when it's uncomfortable, unpopular or under threat. Because silence costs nature too much.
